Wrestling provided a path for BHS alumni Alan Callahan from his elementary year all the way through college. After a very successful wrestling career at BHS, he continued at Baker University, and now he is a P.E student teacher at Spring Hill Elementary School.

He still lives in Baldwin City. He misses going to school at BHS as it is different than college.

“Schoolwise, college you have to motivate yourself to go to class and do your homework,” Callahan said.

He loved college and the wrestling, but he is ready for the adult life.

“I don’t have to worry about teachers and parents getting on me about my grades,” he said. “Wrestling is all about patience in college, picking your shots and being smart.”

He loved college wrestling because it was slow paced, and you can take your time to get your key points.

“Your pace in the first period is the key,” Callahan said. “You don’t want to come out too slow or too fast.”

When it comes to high school wrestling, you have to be faster because the matches are quick.

“High school is a shorter period length,” he said. “You have to start fast and get your points.”

He loves his job at Spring Hill and hopes to maybe become a wrestling coach someday.
