Musselman takes over as boys basketball coach

New head coach Paul Musselman is stepping up from being the freshman head coach to being the head coach for varsity basketball. It has been a goal of his for a number of years, and it is something he thinks he can be successful at.

“It feels great to have the opportunity to be the head boys basketball coach at Baldwin High School,” Musselman said. “This kind of opportunity is one of the reasons I got into teaching and coaching.”

Musselman said it will be a challenge balancing everything.

“It is definitely a challenge balancing teaching, coaching two sports, and spending quality time with family,” Musselman said. “My goal or hope, since I have gotten into this profession, has always been to involve my family in my school and coaching activities.

The Bulldogs are a young team this year and will be looking for improvement throughout the season.

“Basketball is a sport that greatly challenges individuals and things don’t always go your way,” Musselman said. “The goal is to learn and grow from these challenges.”

They will have a tough schedule this year and have a lot of tough opponents.

“I think we have a chance to be a competitive team in the Frontier League,” Musselman said. “We have at least four teams on our schedule that could win a state championship.”

The team will begin practices Monday, Nov. 17, and its game will be on Dec. 5 at Tonganoxie.
