Link is a way for freshmen and new students to be introduced into the high school setting and helps keep them on track by coming in during their seminars. Two link leaders are assigned to each seminar and go around interacting with the freshmen helping them feel accepted into high school.

“On my first day of school I came a day early with the freshmen to get use to the new school,” Junior Trinity Moody said. “Link helped me because they made it a more comfortable environment. Especially on the entire  schools first day because I already somewhat knew people.

Moody is a new student to BHS so she is included into the link system with the other freshmen in her seminar.

“I think just being a good listener and encouraging them to keep going and getting their grades up and be the best version of themselves they can,” senior Olivia Stour said.

“I like my link leaders they are funny and Erin helps me with my math homework and tries to get my grades up,” freshman Kelsey Keith said. “We go to the gym or cafeteria and do an activity they are kind of fun.”

The link program helps many student with their grades like Keith said. All link leaders must have decent to good grades in all class so they can help out. Other requirements are to be in good standing with teachers and the staff.

“Our main goal is to emotionally and physically support them however we can,” Stour said. “We want to guide them on to the right track.”

“Mr Blanchat and I spend a lot of time in May and we help the freshmen on the first day,” Link sponsor Randi Canterbury said. “throughout the year we have them in seminars and we divide them in half and help when problems arise. And we make sure the link leaders talk to their freshmen. Sometimes with athletic schedules and sickness it’s hard for them to meet and then in the spring the seniors do not have seminar. Also the selection process is difficult since we can only have so many leaders and most could have been good link leaders but we had to narrow it down to the best of them.”
