Shop classes are a fun option as an elective class at BHS that many students enjoy taking.

“Shop lets me express myself through woodworking,” senior Zane Phillips said.

Shop classes include Intro to Drafting, Cabinet Making 1,2,3,4, and Welding 1,2,3,4,5. In Cabinet Making, students work with wood and make different things. In Welding students weld, and Intro to Drafting students learn how to do drafting. Many students enjoy shop because it is something they’re interested in it.

“I get to make cool stuff,” sophomore Tucker Nyberg said. “I’ve made a table and a TV stand.”

Teacher Tom Harman likes teaching shop because he is interested in it, he wants to help students who like shop as well. His favorite class to teach is Welding. Harman helps students who also want to pursue shop out of high school.

“I’ve had quite a few students in Welding and Cabinet Making that have continued in the working fields,” Harman said.

A lot of students that are currently in shop plan to continue shop after high school.

“I’m going to continue it and I’m going to college at Northeast Kansas NCKT in Beloit for carpentry and welding,” senior Tanner Schneider said.
