Lawrence construction slows traffic

All of us have been to Lawrence. Whether it was for groceries or to hang out on Mass Street, Lawrence has been known as the hang-out place since Baldwin lacks in activities. home of theaters, restaurants, bowling alleys, and the fast food joints, but what happens when everything is put to a sudden stop. If you have been to Lawrence lately, you would know exactly what that feels like.

The construction site of 6th and Iowa streets are way overdue, since it was supposed to be finished by the summer of 2014. This is also the same fate for the construction on Wakarusa.

Lawrence is not only home of festivities but as of right now it is also home of many construction projects. One of the major projects is at 23rd and Iowa streets. So far this project is on its 7th of 8 phases, according to the Lawrence, Kansas website.

“It’s obtrusive and makes getting around quite a chore,” Senior Natalie Shultz said. “I understand the constitution is necessary but they are way past their deadline. I can’t imagine how much of a hassle it is for KU students.”

Thankfully this project is supposed to be over by the end of November. However, construction for K10 closes all traffic from 23rd Street to Louisiana Street until late spring of 2015.

“It’s too difficult to drive around Lawrence anymore because of all the construction,” Senior Caden Carmack said.

Postponed until 2015 is the Bob Billings Parkway. This consists of repaving, construction, and addiction of a bike lane. As the construction builds up so does the frustration of the people.

“It’s annoying and a hassle,” Senior Michaela todd said. “I have to drive up there at least once a month for orthodontist appointments and it takes me 10-15 longer to get there.” She then goes on to explain, “I know that the roads will be better and it’ll be easier to get places when they’re done, but right now theyre just in the way.”
