With the school year winding down, many minds of students at BHS are being occupied with the thought of prom and the exhilaration that night brings.

“The theme for this year’s prom is Starry Night,” junior Student Council member Kat Braun said. “We really liked the star theme and thought it would look really pretty where we’re having the prom. 

The junior STUCO class has been in charge of the BHS prom for decades. From taking all the concession stand shifts at the home football games to a large amount of fundraising, the students makes sure to gain as much money as they can to ensure a fun night for all.

“I hope the playlist is something really fun,” Audrey Flowers said. “I hope it is something all my friends and I can dance to and have a last bonding moment together.”

In the past, they have hired DJs to produce the music at this event. But this year STUCO decided creating their own playlist would be best. Current students were not in favor of having a DJ this year, so a student fabricated playlist will be used instead.

“We chose to make a playlist because we knew we could take suggestions from people going,” junior Josie Boyle said. “The weeks we are selling tickets to the dance, we will have a box of suggestions where students can put in songs they want to hear to ensure everyone is happy.”

Ensuring happiness to just students isn’t all that is important, the dance is also full of chaperones from all classes. The junior class sponsors have been in charge of this dance for decades.

“We have several other teachers that come who like to see students dressed up,” BHS English teacher Randi Canterbury said. “All of the teachers also go out to dinner and then we either go watch the kids walk in or they go  supervise the dance. It is really fun for the supervisors to go, we enjoy seeing our students dressed up and out of their normal element.”

Prom at BHS will be held Saturday, April 13, at Abe and Jake’s Landing in Lawrence.
