BHS students talk about their boxing experience

When people think of boxing one of the famous characters that come to mind is Rocky. Though there are not many people that box in Baldwin compared to those who let us say play football or basketball, there are those who commit and spend a lot of time training for their big day.

“Boxing has helped me in a lot of ways. It has helped me be a better athlete and be more confident. It helps with the ability to approach people and makes it a lot easier to talk to them,” junior Justin Mead said. “I’m excited for my first match, however I don’t know when that will be.”

Like other sports and activities a person can pick up a couple people along the way and inspire them. This can help create lifelong passions for others and make a big impact in their life also.

“Really all Nick did was ask me to do it, so i did it” junior Cody Latham said.

Boxing can be a very strenuous sport that consists of hard work and constant dedication. You have to eat right and train on daily bases.

“I train through the whole year and I go to the gym in lawrence about four times a week,” Mead said.

The time that it takes to train and prepare, some wonder how they are able to manage their time. Others wonder how they are able to have a social life on top of homework and other daily responsibilities.

“I get to see Nick a lot more so thats really the only way that it affects my social life,” Latham stated
