Don’t blame guns, blame shooter

Try to understand before being understood. These days too many people think they know all about a topic and all the ways it can be looked at. The same goes with guns and gun control. The people who are against citizens owning certain guns or guns in general have neither fired them or done their research correctly.

This issue has come about because of recent mass shootings around the country, and don’t get me wrong these events are terrible but the guns used in them were only tools. It was the person’s intent and the action itself that made it all happen. Now the solution of many pro gun control groups is to either to totally get rid of guns such as the AR-15 and limit the size of the magazines. Now something that does get me made about how they label these weapons is that they call AR-15s “Assault Rifles” but the are in fact just a type of gun that can fire in semi-automatic mode. By definition “Assault Rifles” are rifles that can fire semi-auto mode and fully auto which is only allowed to the military. And thats another thing, some pro gun control groups only base their decision to outlaw a gun by if it looks military like. Anyway back to pro gun control solutions. Another one of their solutions is better background checks which is all fine and dandy but how far are they going to go with them? How invasive/personal will they get?

So because of the statements above I ask you this question, since when do criminals follow the law? And if logic will tell you anything they don’t. According to The Maryland Minuteman Chicago has some of the strictest gun control laws in the country but more people have been killed in Chicago than soldiers in the Afghanistan War in the past eight years. Only 1% were killed with a rifle and 98% were killed with a handgun. None of the guns used in these murders were registered to the people that used them. Restricting guns will not I repeat will not prevent criminals from using them. In central China, on the same day as the Sandy Hook massacre a man stabbed and killed 22 kids and one adult at a school. So saying that it can only be done with a gun is false. Also to go along with the Sandy Hook subject the AR-15 that the kid had never left the trunk of his car. And the pistols that he did use were laying out in the open with ammo right next to them. His mom never put the guns up so he couldn’t get to them while she was gone. Something that you also have to look at is the fact that most of the people that commit these mass killings had some form of mental disability like the kid in the Sandy Hook Massacre. So more than anything it is the people that are the problem not the guns.

The main solution to this is better common sense like make sure to lock up your guns and separate as much ammo from your guns as possible, but have enough for self defense. And if you think that someone is about to blow their top make sure to tell someone about it but you can only do so much. As I have said before, and I can not stress this enough, is that guns are not the problem, people are.
