BHS Students opinions of having jobs in high school

Is having a job in high school a good or bad thing?

A recent study got some answers. Almost all the students voted that having a job in high school with a total of 90% of the students said having a job in high school is a good thing, 10% said it was bad.

”You can gain experience and learn to balance your schedule,” a student said. Out of everyone that took the survey 30% of the people were freshman, 34% were sophomores, 17% juniors, and 17% were seniors, and 52% were males and 48% females.

“Having a job in high school is good as long as it is not taking away from your future career, like you don’t want to be working at Mcdonalds your whole life,” sophomore Amelia Murray said.

There was more students without jobs, 48% had jobs and 52% did not. As you get older you are more likely to have a job, 28% of freshman had jobs, 37% of the sophomores have jobs, 77% of the juniors had jobs, and 87% of the seniors had jobs. 93% of the people said students in high school are ready for a job but 7% said they were not. How many hours is too many for someone in high school to work, 2% said less than 20 hours was to many, 27% said 20 hours was to much, 30% said 30 hours was to many, 30 % said 40 was to many, and 10% said more than 40 hours was to much to handle.

The 48% of students who had jobs gave more information about their working ethics, 19% work 9 hours or less, 34% of students work 10 hours, 30% of the students work 20 hours, 11% work 30 hours 30 and 3% work more than 40 hours.

“Having a job in high school prepares you for your future and life after high school,” senior Payton Pope said.

9% of the students with jobs get paid less than $6 4% get paid $6, 22% get paid $7, 18% get paid $8, 13% get paid $9, 13% get paid $10.

“You can have extra money,” a student said.
