The top musicians over the Kansas Region met together in Wichita and played together and amongst were Megann Lawrenz and Kymbr Simmons. The students were accepted to perform with well-known conductors, and play with many other talented high school students. Junior Megann Lawrenz was accepted with her trombone piece, and this will be her second year in a row attending state band. Senior Kymbr Simmons playing the Contrabass Clarinet, is a third-year member which is the greatest amount of years you can attend.

“Going to state means that my instrumental career is finally taking off,” Lawrenz said. “And being invited for the second year, gives me a great chance of becoming a third year member”

Band members can only attend state three years. This achievement is not that common, here at BHS Simmons did just that. This year is her third year attending state band playing the Contrabass Clarinet.

“It’s amazing being a three year participant. It means I’ve been an All-State all the possible years I can,” Simmons said. “It’s amazing to get this, I’ve worked so hard to get this it’s the largest achievement I’ve ever gotten and to know not that many people get it. ”

While in Wichita, Lawrenz and Simmons will work with other students under the construction of well known conductors. They will perform pieces together as a group and get to challenge their musical skills.
