When most people think about pets, they think of dogs or cats, maybe even horses, but there are students in Baldwin who have pets that don’t fall under the “usual pets” spectrum.

“I have a yellow leopard gecko named Gomez,” junior Grace Cooper said.

Sophomore Sydney Thurlow also has a reptile as a pet.

“I have a leatherback bearded dragon named Zeah,” Thurlow said.

There are some tedious specks of caring for these animals.

“He isn’t really hard to care for. He eats crickets so feeding him can be a bit tedious at times, but overall he is pretty easy to care for,” Cooper said.

However, it is not very difficult overall.

“It’s not very hard. All I have to do is feed and water her and clean out her cage. I do have to hold her quite a bit or she will get antisocial and kind of mean,” Thurlow said.

While they are pretty easy and simple to care for, there are some needs these pets have that are unlike other common pets.

“I have to feed him crickets and spray his terrarium with water when he is shedding. It isn’t very time consuming, but it is very rewarding,” Cooper said.

While some needs for these animals involve cleaning where they live, others need you to bathe them often.
“I have to give her baths quite a bit because they get most of the water they need through their skin,” Thurlow said.
