‘College Spotlight” is an ongoing college profile column in The Bulldog Bulletin featuring various colleges for BHS students to consider.

University of Kansas is often considered by BHS students because it is close to home,

There are 29 four year universities in Kansas. KU is a college is attended by 27,784 students.

To attend KU there are three requirements. They are to complete the Kansas Qualified Admissions Curriculum with a 2.0+ GPA, a A.C.T. score of 21 or above or graduating in the top one third of graduating class and having a 2.0+ GPA in high school.

It could cost between $ 17,198 and $ 20,898 for tuition, campus fees, housing, meals and books. There are scholarships to help lower the cost at fastweb.com and finaid.org. Kansas University also offers in house scholarships.

The Chancellor scholarship is for $20,000. The requirements for admissions are an ACT score of 32 or a SAT score of 1400 and additionally a GPA of 3.85. The Traditions scholarship is for $16,000. The requirements are an ACT score of 31 or a SAT score of 1360 and a GPA of 3.75. The Crimson and Blue scholarship is for $8,000. The requirements are an ACT score of 28 or a SAT score of 1250 and a GPA of 3.5. The Rock Chalk scholarship is for $4,000. The requirements are an ACT score of 25 or a SAT score of 1130 and a GPA of 3.5. The Jayhawk scholarship is for $4,000. The requirements are an ACT score of 24 or an SAT score of 1090 and a GPA of 3.75.

The deadline for taking either taking the ACT or SAT and to be considered for scholarships is in December.

“Since it’s a large university you have a lot of diversity, clubs and opportunities for activities.” Marten said. “Basketball really unites everybody. It’s fun camping out for games and cheering for teams.”
