Art department sparked by Carlisle’s creativity

Baldwin High School Art Teacher Christy Carlisle has been teaching at BHS for five years. She has been in Baldwin for a lot longer, though. Carlisle teaches Intro to Visual Arts, 2-D Design, 3-D Design, Digital Photography, Ceramics, Drawing and Painting.

“She likes us to do our own work and she believes in every artist good or bad, she chill,” sophomore Calyn Johnson said.

Being the leader of the Art Club at BHS and doing many other school activities is time consuming, but she also does many other things in her spare time.

“Everyday I go home and make myself a latte and play video games for at least 20 minutes, I call it my loser time,” Carlisle said.

Carlisle likes to watch Dr. Who on TV, cook, ride her Harley, be outside, and spend time with family. She has five kids, nine grandkids and another one on the way. One of her favorite things to do is go camping with her family, which she has a lot of.

“I’m kind of an outdoorsy person,” Carlisle said.

Carlisle does art outside of school as well. Probably what you would expect from an art teacher. She teaches a class at Neosho County Community College, participates in art shows around the clock and owns her own designing business called Q.Designz. She is a member of the Nelson Arts Museum in Kansas City and she helps out at the Lumberyard Arts Center, right here in Baldwin City. Balancing all of this can be troubling for Carlisle at times but she still takes time to relax.

Carlisle tries to stay true to herself.

“I try to follow my own compass, and always be happy,” Carlisle said.
