Alumni flying high as Stealth Bomber Air Force pilot

There are around 325,000 active members in the United States Air Force. Of these members only 13,000 are actual pilots, thats around 4% of active members. Of these 13,000 pilots less than 100 are pilots of the B-2 Stealth Bomber.

One of these pilots is Nathan Perry who is a 1992 graduate of Baldwin High School. Perry is an Instructor Pilot at the 13th Bomb Squadron, Whiteman Air Force Base flying the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber. Before he joined the Air Force he was a teacher for five years. He taught Physics/Physical science at Eudora High School.

What do you remember most about attending Baldwin High School?

“I remember the on-going theme of ‘Legacy’ more than anything. Hearing the older generations talk about Baldwin was awesome. Wearing the same Bulldawg number as my dad and trying to get better grades in school than he did, as a kid having Coach Venerable ask if I was going to be a “Baldwin Bulldawg” and play for him; seeing Silver helmets covered in other teams colors representing Dawg bites in battle; having the only in-ground gym with catwalk, pep-band and intense atmosphere; after ballgame Chili feeds with the community; the Downtown Pep Rallies; going to State in Football at KU’s Memorial Stadium; and most of all having the businesses in town Decorate and talk about pride/support/loyalty for the schools from K-12 for year-long events/seasons.,” Perry said.

Why did you decided to join the military?

“September 11, 2011, happened and I just felt like I needed to do my part for our country. Many men/women before me have sacrificed for the great US of A and I didn’t want to miss my chance. I started flying at 14 years old and thought it would be a good fit,” Perry said.

BullDawg is not a typo for Bulldog it is its own word with a definition given by Perry in his replies.

**Definition of “BullDawg”:  A close friend with true grit and tireless tenacity, with a fierce competitive will to be the best at whatever he/she chooses to accomplish.

Perry is off to Air command and Staff College in Montgomery, Alabama this summer for specialized training in the area of Squadron command.
