Wind Runner is a side scrolling endless platformer by WeMade Entertainment that features an orange-haired girl who goes by the name of Chloe. The point of this game is simply to run as far as you can, collect coins and find power-ups while earning coins and gems that users can use to buy pets who tag along with your character and provide perks to help the player to achieve their goals.

Characters

The characterization is extremely flat since there is no backstory. This keeps things simple and focused on the simple object of the game instead of making the game over-complex by adding unnecessary story lines.

Gameplay

The game is a 2D platformer where you run for as long as you can without falling off of edges, hitting enemies, or being caught by the edge of the screen. The user has no control over whether the character goes forward, backward, speed, etc. which makes fast reaction time all the more important. The speed starts out slow but gets faster as the game continues.

Graphics

This game uses anime-style 2D characters that look original. The game is by no means high definition quality but given the simplicity of the gameplay and the genre, that is more for the better because the graphics do not distract the user with pretty visuals and the game does a great job of keeping the player focused on the actual gameplay.

I have to give props to the developers for not overrunning the game with advertisements. There are countless games that are released for free that are completely overrun with pop-ups and banners that take away from the overall quality of the game but this game has very little to no ads within the game.

Wind Runner is a nice, simple, endless platformer that does not try too hard to look realistic and has a great retro feel to it. There are multiple versions of the game, it was originally released in Japan then it eventually moved to America. After playing the original Japanese version, the American version is watered down comparatively. The Japanese version has more features such as “championship mode” where you can compete against other players from around the world for a higher score and the players are separated into divisions based on their skill and much more but those who do not happen to have a Japanese iTunes account will have to settle for the not as good, but still good version. I recommend this to any fans of Imangi Studio’s Temple Run or classic platformer games such as Nintendo’s Super Mario and Sega’s Sonic The Hedgehog.
