Many schools in the United States have swim teams and the idea is growing across the country.
Being on a swim team is a great experience for everyone to learn how to become a team and there is a big mental aspect when swimming. That makes you become mentally and physically tough.
There is a swim team which is the Baldwin Barracudas at the local pool. Multiple students swim there, including Leela Singer.
“Having a swim team is that it creates more opportunities for students to participate in a sport that is as important individually as it is in a team,” Singer said.
Having this opportunity in high school could be life changing for some students.
“If BHS were to get a swim team, I would join because I love swimming because it pushes me to be my best,” Singer said.
When having this sport in our school it will teach students to swim which is an important life skill to have that most adults do not have. This sport will open more doors for students including scholarships for their future.
Naomi Goodwin also swims for the Baldwin Barracudas. She has been swimming for many years and thinks that Baldwin should have a swim team.
“If Baldwin ever had a swim team I would gladly be on it,” Goodwin said.
When having a new sport there are multiple expenses to be paid. Having a swim team functions with a different facility rather than other sports.
“Competition with leagues and cost or finances would be a problem. Also add on a part of the building to build a pool for it to be indoor which would cost even more,” Goodwin said.
