Forensics is an activity students can take that students compete in with other students and schools, BHS teacher Sunny Allen teaches it.

“Forensics is speaking and acting both, so they can choose a speech and memorize it or they choose a story or poem and recite it,” Allen said. “We meet on saturdays and its all day from 6:15 to 5.”

Allen decided to not teach early in the morning this year.

“Last year I taught it at zero hour, and so the kids would show up at seven, I decided that I didn’t want to do that this year, I don’t have it as a class but it is still an activity,” Allen said. “Because I have to teach all english there wasn’t room in my schedule to teach it.”

In Forensics students will learn to grow and develop their work.

“I love watching the kids find their pieces and develop them and get better, practice and rehearse,” Allen said.  “I like watching their personalities come through on the pieces they choose.”

Forensics also does competitions online and in person.

“We are going to do an online competition, most of them are in person but we have a hard time traveling three hours to get to some of the places,” Allen said.  “I first make students take notes and jot down things on it, and then they’ll perform it for the all the other kids, then we give good constructive criticism.”
