Baldwin High School students making news

Every day, the daily announcements for Baldwin High School are posted on various websites such as YouTube, Twitter and Facebook. Most of these announcements are made by the Broadcast Media class, taught by Kit Harris.

“Students learn how to organize, plan, shoot and edit a video project, and also how to work as a team in their groups,” Harris said.

However, Broadcast Media does much more than just the daily announcements.

“They do individual projects, for example they each had to make an intro, the one currently used for the daily announcements was made by a student,” Harris said.

Some might wonder how difficult this class is, since you have to essentially create small segments of a news broadcast for a grade, well according to senior student Shelby Waage.

“It is extremely easy unless you don’t do your project, but I usually don’t have that problem,” she said.

Harris also agrees that his class is not that difficult.

“It shouldn’t be hard if you complete your weekly assignments, weekly quizzes and contribute to your group, it’s suppose to be a fun class that contributes to the community,” he said.

The announcements may consume a large portion of a students week, depending on your work ethic.

“Groups have about a week to prepare for the announcements, they plan it and then they have to edit the script, shoot their interviews and put it all together,” Harris said.

Most students agree with him. “It depends usually we gotta change it up, we have to film and edit it all by ourselves, but it’s not bad so long as you work on it,” said Shelby Waage.
