As the first day of school fades into the past, the twenty new students at Baldwin High

School are thriving. For these new Bulldogs, purple and white are their favorite colors. Two of these students are transfers from nearby schools. They are already enjoying their time at BHS.

“I love the people here. Everybody is so kind to me,” said sophomore Kaela Roberts, who from Wellsville. “The sophomore class is so much fun.”

Gardner Edgerton High School transfer Luke Laskowski, a junior, agreed with Roberts.

“My favorite things about Baldwin High School so far are the teachers and students I now go to school with,” Laskowski said.

Welcoming new students, including freshmen, is only one of the ways BHS makes their student body excited to be here. Fall sports, club meetings, and combined classes create new relationships with students and teachers.

“I feel welcome at Baldwin High,” Laskowski said. “I made many friends on the football team before the first day of school and it made it easier for me to get to know others.”

Iowa native Carly Lindenmeyer, now a sophomore, moved to Baldwin City in 2014. She agrees with Laskowski, saying sports helped her make many friends.

“I love it here,” Lindenmeyer said. “I love how some of the teachers are coaches, and several student athletes are in a lot of my classes.”

Several staff members agreed with Lindenmeyer on ways new students can feel involved and comfortable at BHS.
“I know the new students will thrive here at BHS,” counselor Autumn Weiss said. “There are so many ways to be involved at our school, and I absolutely know they will do great things.”
