Herradon enjoys American experience.

Javier Herradon is an exchange student from Spain. Herradon will be attending Baldwin High School for the 2015-16 year.

Herradon has noticed many differences in the two counties school system. But most notably the school system in Spain is more challenging, according to Herradon.

“In America, I don’t have to study as much,” Herradon said.

The American school system is based off a percent and the Spain’s school system is based off a 10-point grading system.

“We have different classes and don’t use iPads,” Herradon said.

In Spain, there are not as many classes in one day.

“In Spain, we only have five classes so we don’t carry as many books,” Herradon said. “There isn’t a break in between classes.”

When an exchange student comes to America the hosts has to change their lives based on what he or she does.

“We have to drive more and keep more food in the house,” Caleb Othick said, “but other than that it’s not much different he is a part of the family now.”

Host families sometimes tend to teach the exchange students about their lives.

“I went to church and learned about Christianity,” Herradon said.

Baldwin High School has influenced many exchange student over the past years.

“We have hoped to help the exchange students receive a good education and understand our culture in Baldwin, Kansas and The United States,” Principal Rob McKim said. “I hoped we improved the students’ language.”

There are many reasons why to have exchange students.

“It is good to be exposed to their culture,” Mckim said.
