Skipping High School in BHS
By Candace Brown, BHS Journalism
A survey was taken by 50 BHS students about details on skipping school. In the survey there were questions on how much school do students miss. Why do students skip school? Does it affect their grades? Also how they feel about skipping school. Of all the people who took the survey it was a wide variety students but out of every grade.
The survey had 33 percent were from the seniors and 27 percent of freshman. The sophomores have 23 percent of the survey and the juniors come in last with 13 percent. Out of the freshman all but three students circled that skipping school affects your grades. Every senior asked but one said skipping school does not matter about the grades you get in school. The percentage of students that agree with skipping school affects your grades are 25 percent. The rest of the 63 percent says it does not affect your grades.
“Skipping school does not affect your grades,” a male senior said. “Doing your homework and studying for your tests affects your grades.”
The male and female percentage were almost the same. The poll had 42 percent of men who took the survey and 58 percent females. Not all of the students wanted to put their GPA on the survey sheet but 38 out of 48 students did. In the survey it shows 66 percent of people have a 3.50-4.00 grade point average, which means all those students are on the honor roll too. There were 5% of people with the lowest GPA of 2.00-2.50.
When the question was asked about how do the students feel when they do skip school there were many different answers. Many students which was 43 percent answered that they feel bad about it and now they will have more homework to do. Another 24 percent said they just did not want to go to school that day. Some students say they skip only one class because they know they are not doing anything or they need a break. Although not everybody skips school.
“I do not skip school,” a sophomore said. “So I have no answer on what I think about skipping school.”
“I skip because I did not get enough homework done or I did not study for a test,” female senior said.
As this survey shows not many students at baldwin often skip school. Other have their reasons to skip class or classes for some sort of reason. If it is because of not enough sleep, work to late, or even homework that was not finished. Obviously, it does not affect their grades too bad because off all the high grade point averages.
