New Head Coach at BHS Zack Flowers. The new head coach for BHS wrestling is BHS alum Zack Flowers. Flowers was the assistant coach for BHS and BJHS last year.
“I took the position because I feel it’s a fantastic opportunity to continue to build Baldwin wrestling,” Flowers said. “After being a part of the team for the last two years, I have already established, in my opinion, strong relationships with the students to continue to build a confident and skillful team.”
Last year, BHS had two girls and four boys qualify for the 4A State wrestling tournament. The boys team last year had a record of 7-5. The girls team last year had a record of 7-3.
“We can go as far as we would like to, Flowers said. “It’s all up to how invested we are and how hard we’re willing to work and improve.”
Flowers has many different feelings, but one is excitement. He has wanted to help the team for years, and now he has the chance.
“I want to elevate our mindset when it comes to intentionally seeking improvement, working hard, facing adversity, and competing,” Flowers said.
Last year, the girls and boys had a different head coach. This year, they have a new leader to learn from in Coach Flowers.
“I think Flowers will really engage with the team and be a good mentor,” senior Gracie Hildebrand said.
Hildebrand has been wrestling all of high school. She has seen a lot of coaches over the years of her wrestling career.
“I like what Flowers has to offer for the team,” Hildebrand said. “He has lots of his own touches he puts on moves, and they could help people find their groove and what they like as an individual.”
