It was another exciting State Tournament in Salina for the Bulldog girls. The girls team battled their way through a tough two days of wrestling and ended with another State trophy to their name. They finished 3rd with four state placers, Audrey Darnell, Madi Hargett, Morgan Base, and Brianna Mitchell.

“I believe that state turned out great for us even though not all of the girls got the outcome they wanted,’’ senior Darnell said. “I’m so grateful to everyone who supported me throughout my season and at state”.

There were 10 Girls that qualified for state and worked hard to reach their goals to get to where they are. Eight of the 10 girls made it to the second day to wrestle hard and try to place on the front and backside of the brackets.

The girls team was led by Kit Harris, Jesse Austin, Sarah Johnson, Bryce Shoemaker, and Ben Morgenstern. “State was a great experience for our team. We had a lot of girls that were there for the first time at state and even their first year. Everyone wrestled their hardest and I’m very proud of all of them.” said the head coach of the boys and girls wrestling team. This was Harris’s 40th year of attending state with his teams

The girls wrestling team was led by Darnell placing 2nd, Hargett placing 4th, Base and Mitchell each wrestled their way to the podium and finished in 6th place. Canyon Burtis, Perla Bäckburg, Willow Dubois, Allee Darnell, Nora Prather and Elee Pittman all wrestled their way to state but didn’t place.

“I’m really proud of how my team finished at state this year. I know we at least wanted to bring home a trophy and we did accomplish that goal,” said Pittman, a 2-time state qualifier. “Personally, I didn’t achieve my goal, but I wrestled my hardest and better than I did last year. I plan to work hard to place next year.”
