With seasons changing from Winter to Spring, athletes at Baldwin High School have six spring sports to choose from including track and field, baseball, softball, girls soccer and boys tennis.

In the past our spring sports have been very successful due to all the hard working, dedicated athletes. The softball team not only made it to state, but won the state title last year. Plus, the BHS track and field teams have had several athletes place at state.

“Last spring, softball had a very exciting and once in a lifetime experience during the season,” senior Addie Nigh said, “due to the team fighting through a long night of semi-finals and winning state.”

“As a freshman getting to go to state in track last year were once in a lifetime experience,” sophomore Rylee Schmidt said. “Even though I was just an alternate last year at state, it  motivates me to work just as hard this season so I can be out there on the track running at state, this coming spring season.”

Now all teams have a chance to repeat history or make new history with the new spring sports season coming up. There are new athletes on the sports team this year due to the incoming freshman and new students. With all the athletes putting in the hard work and dedication to each and every program, we have a bright future ahead of us for our spring sports.

“Every day, all of my new and past teammates amaze me in how much work they put into the sport and how they strive to be the best they can be,” sophomore Cambria Crowe said. “That is all I am asking my teammates to do and I can already tell the hard work is going to pay off in the end.”

There has been practice struggles for each spring sport due to weather. Each and every sport has pushed through the weather or had a plan b to still make sure hard work could be put in. If the weather cooperates, all spring sports will start to have games and matches in the last week of March.

“Since it is cold outside we can not practice, but when we practice inside we go over our rules or practice putting,” sophomore golfer Dylan Steinman said. “I tend to find it boring, doing the same drills for inside practice and the team can not wait to get outside.”
