Fasenmyer takes over girls tennis program

The Baldwin girls tennis team experienced a change this season. They gained a new addition to their team, and it wasn’t just freshmen.

Jamie Inzer, the previous head coach for the team, has stepped down and the girls now have a new coach. New head coach Dawn Fasenmyer has taken the job of being the coach, along with assistant coach Chad Scoby.

“This is my first year coaching tennis,” Fasenmyer said. “However, I coached high school track for eleven years in Blue Valley, along with volleyball and basketball in middle school.”

This change did require an adjustment for the girls. Throughout the season, which began back in August, each player has had a different way of adjusting.

“I think every coach has their own style of coaching,” senior Erin Grosdidier said. “This year has been different than previous years.”

The girls have not only been learning from the coaches, but from each other as well.

“As an upperclassmen you kind of have to take up a leadership role for the new and younger girls,” junior Maiya Evans said. “Help coach them the way you can, especially when you have a bigger team and only two coaches.”

The girls are not the only ones who had to make an adjustment. Fasenmyer had to as well.

“Yes, balancing both coaching and teaching has been difficult,” Fasenmyer said. “Especially when adding in first year in a new building and new district.”

Fasenmyer also had to learn the ropes of coaching tennis, considering it’s her first year of coaching it.

“I really enjoy the hard work by the team,” Fasenmyer said. “I wasn’t expecting so many matches a week and all the organizing and behind the scenes tennis requires.”

Overall, the entire team has had to make adjustments. Every girl has their own way, but as the season has settled, everyone else has seemed to settle in as well.

“I’m learning a lot though, and I love the Baldwin students and athletes,” Fasenmyer said. “So it is pretty fun while being challenging.”
