Seniors lead way for boys basketball

Basketball season is about to begin at BHS with a loaded group of seniors, a total of nine are on this year’s squad six are returning varsity contributors. The team is very experienced, only losing two seniors from last season. The Bulldogs are having high standards for this group.

“We want to work hard to get better every day and make some serious noise in the league and postseason this year” senior Michael Burton said.

BHS was knocked out early in Sub-State by Spring Hill last season. They are looking to build on that expensive this year with the returning group with strong leadership. Burton and following seniors, Tim Craig, Quinn Twombly, Luke Fursman, Chad Berg, and Cornell Brown.

“I want help lead the team this year and help this team win in any way possible and as a point guard make everyone around me get better” Brown said.

The first game of this season is at 7 p.m. on Dec 6th at the BJHS gym against Jefferson County North. The Bulldogs beat Jefferson County North last year 63-43.

“They are a team that is going to give us everything they have to prove that they can beat a bigger school. They will be a good early test to see where we are as a team and what we as a group need to work on,” Burton said.

This year is a great occasion having a big group of seniors that are so close because of the past years both Brown and Burton agree that this season will be different for that very reason.

“It is great having this group to play with, we are all so close because most of us played football in the fall so the bond is already strong and we have not skipped a beat,” Brown said.

Everyone one on the squad seems to be on same page according to Burton for that reason.

“It feels great. We have been playing together since we started basketball and I feel lucky to be able to play my senior year with some of my best friends,” Burton said.

This season more than half of the games for the Bulldogs will be at home. The Bulldogs will be hosting the Bulldog Wildcat Classic this year and the annual Baldwin Invitational Tournament.

“I love it there is nothing like playing in front of your home crowd and getting to do it so much this season will be a great experience,” Burton said.
