Bulldog soccer squad in striking form, undefeated

In 12 games, the Bulldog soccer squad has yet to learn the feeling of defeat. For the Bulldogs, it is not even in the curriculum.

“It’s awesome to be undefeated,” senior Nick Joslyn said. “I think we’re the only team in 4A and I know that we are playing to our potential.”

The Bulldogs have outscored opponents 53-9 and average 4.4 goals a game. The Bulldogs are ranked fifth in the KSCA 4A-1A polls. Sophomore Brendan Owings, who starts in the central midfield after coming off the bench last year, said the Bulldogs could be even higher.

“If we would’ve beaten De Soto,” Owings said, “we probably would be fourth.”

De Soto stands as the only sole blemish on the Bulldogs 12-0-1 record. the Bulldogs tied the Wildcats earlier in the year. After the tie, the Bulldogs have managed to go on a seven game winning streak. This included a 3-0 win over Perry-Lecompton, a team the Bulldogs have struggled to score against in previous years.

“It was a good win because they were a tough team coming in,” Joslyn said. “They had a pretty good record. But we played well as a team, possessed the ball and were patient.

Owings agreed and said that possessing was a large part of the Bulldogs success this fall.

“I just feel like we are possessing the ball really well,” Owings said. “Getting the ball back fast is a key part of our game.”

The Bulldogs look to make it eight at 4 p.m. today when they host Eudora. The Bulldogs beat the Cardinals 4-0 at Eudora earlier this year.

“Hopefully the game will be a bit easier,” Joslyn said, “but the had a decent result against De Soto, so we’ll have to come out ready.”
