SIDELINE SPORTS: Manziel’s Summer Fun

Johnny Manziel is the big story from this past offseason. Current Heisman Trophy winner has been stirring up trouble with his antics. Manziel has been caught all over the news for going to high profile events such as the NBA Finals, throwing out the first pitch at the San Diego Padres game, not showing up to Peyton Manning’s Quarterback camp and now his latest scandal getting paid for his autographs.

People all over the celebrity world such as Drake, Lebron James, and many sports anchors across the sports networks have been expressing their opinion about Manziel, but many stars across the nation were just trying to help. Drake spent a weekend with Manziel giving him advice about how to handle fame and his soon-to-come NFL fortune as he is predicted to leave A&M after this season for the NFL draft.

Manziel, the sophomore quarterback at Texas A&M University is under NCAA investigation for supposedly for giving out autographs to a sports broker who loaded all the items on to Ebay which caught the NCAA eye. The investigation came to an end when pictures of Manziel entering a room with an unknown man and leaving hours later in the same clothes surfaced. The suspicion is that he was getting paid for the signed merchandise. The investigation ended up giving Manziel one half-game suspension in this past week’s game against Rice.

Manziel went 6 for 8 passing with 94 yards and 3 touchdowns in the second half only against Rice. It looks like none of these allegations about him are getting to his head. The curious thing was all the taunting he did during the game. On several occasions he was caught taunting with Rice players, faking an autograph and pretending to throw money in the air.

Has this fame gone too far into his head? We may never know, but he sure seems to be handling his stuff on the field just the same as last year. His big test this season to see if he still is the big man on campus at A&M is week three of the season where 2013 National Champion Alabama rolls into College Station.

All eyes will be on Manziel to see if he can pull off another magical game as he did last year against Alabama, winning in Tuscaloosa last year to a score of 29-24. Will Manziel live his dream season or will his fame becomes too much pressure?
