SIDELINE SPORTS: NFL’s year of the rookies

Football is back in full force, The Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants started off the season with excitement and a close fought game. All signs for this season are looking up should be another amazing football season.

The year of the rookie is finally here. Five of the rookie quarterbacks are starting off this season straight out of college: Robert Griffin III of the Washington Redskins, Andrew Luck of the Indianapolis Colts, Ryan Tannehill of the Miami Dolphins, Brandon Weeden of the Cleveland Browns, Ryan Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks. This is the first time five rookie QBs have started the season opener.

These rookie’s impact on their teams as a leader could be good or just go completely awful. Tannehill is the the only QB playing based off injury. Miami Dolphins first-string starter David Garrard was hurt during the preseason.

The three main QBs look to make a name in the NFL. Luck and Griffin were drafted at the first two spots of the 2012 NFL draft in April.

I believe Griffin is going to have an amazing season. The Heisman trophy winner from Baylor looks to win right off the bat. Leading the Redskins into the season, Griffin’s goals are to get this team back on track.

Luck has some big shoes to fill in Indy, he is replacing a four-time MVP in Peyton Manning. The QB from Stanford has some high expectations for this team but the Colts are in that rebuilding process. The Colts had the worst record in The entire NFL last season. The main reason for that was Manning was recovering from his neck surgery. Now the Colts are looking for Luck to lead them back to the winning ways.

The biggest surprise this offseason was the Colts letting go of Manning, is now the leader and QB of the Denver Broncos. He is looking to have another MVP season. His goal is to get back in the playoffs. Last season, the Broncos got to the playoffs based off Tim Tebow and the running offense last year. Denver has the weapons to be Super Bowl contenders. Manning looks to get back to his dominance this year.

Tebow was let go by Denver this offseason, and he is now a member of the New York Jets. Jets QB Mark Sanchez is still the starting QB, according to head coach Rex Ryan.

Tebow is going to be used as mainly an additional Wildcat player based off how much he loves the game and his athletic skills.
