The Baldwin High School Wrestling team has seven qualifiers for the State Championships in Salina on Feb. 24-25.

The qualifiers for State are freshman Jon Pratt (106 lbs.), sophomore Tucker Clark (120), junior Bryce Shoemaker (126), senior Andrew Morgan (132), senior Cody Sellers (138), junior Jason Von Bargen (160), and senior Colton Bonner (220).

Coach Kit Harris has been working with the qualifiers this week in an attempt to prepare them for State.

“We have been focusing on particulars and problem areas,” Harris said. “We are working on maintaining conditioning and we are stressing mental focus.”

Clark has seen a change in practices as well.

“Practices are shorter and more intense,” Clark said. “We are focusing on hitting everything right and hard.”

Leading up to State, the wrestlers appear to feel that their hard work will pay off.

“We are very excited,” Clark said. “We are a little bit nervous but everyone is ready. Hopefully, we will be in the top five, we qualified multiple placers high.”

Harris also seems to be unsure of where the team will place at State.

“I think we’ll do well,” Harris said. “I don’t know exactly where we will finish, but who knows, we had a a good season and a good week of practice.”

The State Championships starts 10 am Feb. 24 at the Salina Bicentennial Center.
