For years Baldwin High School sports have brought students together and made a lot of memories. At every game the BHS photographers are there. They take pictures of the big plays, the celebrations, and even the small moments people might miss. Because of the student photographers, students can look back at these memories later.
For a lot of student photographers it starts with something simple.
“The thing that got me interested in photography was seeing pictures from pro-photographers online,” freshman Jay Bieberdorf said.
For other people, photography starts with someone pushing them to try it.
“Probably Kit Harris one year was like, you should be in yearbook ,and I was like okay I will try it,” junior Cason Dick said.
Learning photography is not easy at first.
“You are not going to be good at first,” Dick said. “It is just repetition.”
Bieberdorf has been taking pictures for about four years. He likes that photography lets him be creative and improve over time.
“My favorite thing about taking pictures is the creative aspect and you get to learn from your mistakes and get better the longer you do it,” Bieberdorf said.
There is also a lot of work people do not see after the game is over.
“I wish people knew how long it takes to process the pictures and post them,” Bieberdorf said.
Both photographers believe what makes a picture stand out is how it looks and how it is put together.
“I think that if people have specific editing styles that stand out from other peoples photos is what makes it stand out,” Bieberdorf said.
“Being proportional across the picture,” Dick said.
Even if they do photography just for fun or maybe in college one day they both help capture important moments. Because of student photographers Baldwin High School will always have pictures to remember the games and the memories.
