Q: Did you go to school to become a pilot?
“I am currently attending Kansas State University Salina for their Professional Pilot Program.”
Q: How long did it take you to earn your license? How long does it take?
“I am still relatively early in my flight training, but I have started on my Private Pilot certificate this semester. It varies for each person on how quickly they can obtain all their ratings, but three to six years is the average time for someone actively working towards them.”
Q: Why did you want to become a pilot?
“I served in the Air Force as a Jet Mechanic, where I worked on the C-17A Globemaster. This is where my love for aviation truly developed. I became infatuated with everything surrounding the subject. This is where my interest in becoming a pilot unfolded. I realized during my service that becoming a pilot is my true goal in life.”
Q: Was this the Career that you wanted to pursue while you went to BHS?
“No, my career choice changed nearly every couple of weeks. I originally wanted to become an automotive mechanic, then an aircraft mechanic, to now a pilot.”
Q: Do you still live in Baldwin City?
“Unfortunately, I no longer live in Baldwin City, but I have recently returned to the great state of Kansas. I currently reside in Salina, Kansas.”
Q: Will you fly for a company? If so, which company?
“I will most likely be with the 190th Air Refueling Wing. They’re an Air National Guard unit that is based out of Topeka, KS. I currently serve with them as a Jet Engine Mechanic on the KC-135R.”
Q: Do you fly with anyone else or is it just yourself?
“I fly with a Certified Flight Instructor or CFI, but I should go on my first solo flight soon.”
Q: What planes do you like to fly?
“I have only flown one plane, a Cessna 172 Skyhawk, but being a passenger on the C-17A was quite the experience.”
