McKim awarded principal of the year in area one

Baldwin High School Principal Rob McKim got awarded for an honorable award in the late summer of 2014 from the state of Kansas. The award was only given to six principals in the state of Kansas.

Q: What kind of award did you get?

  • A: It’s the Kansas Association of Secondary School Principals, or KASSP. All of the schools in the state of Kansas are divided into six areas and Baldwin High School is in area one. I was elected from that area so I won the award for area one.

Q: When did you receive it?

  • A: I actually haven’t received the award yet but I was noticed for it in the late summer and I go to a meeting on Nov. 12 to accept the award.

Q: Who nominated you?

  • A: Some of the other principals in the area nominated me but from there it goes on to other people.

Q: Who gave you the award?

  • A: Well like I said, I haven’t actually received it yet but it will come from the KASSP.

Q:  What were the qualifications for the award?

  • A: I don’t know for sure. You had to be a high school principal, obviously. You had to be nominated, and then I think at that point they just kind of look at some of the accomplishments of the nominees. So how the school does on the ACT test, how the school does on the State Assessment tests, what their activities are like, what’s kind of the feel of the community. I think those are all kind of factored into the decision.

Q:  How long have you been a school principal?

  • A: This is my fourth year as a principal, and then I was an assistant principal two years before that.

Q: How long have you been a principal at Baldwin High School?

  • A: This is my fourth year, this was my first gig as a principal.

Q:How did you get the award?

  • A: I would say some of the same qualifications. Had to be a principal, had to be nominated, and then they send me a letter saying ‘hey, you were nominated and chosen as the region one principal of the year.
