To some, online school may seem like the perfect solution: easy schedule, sleeping in, and no crowded hallways. But once you actually experience it, the downsides become very clear.
While online school may work for some people, other people it causes more problems than it solves, especially for the people who rely on the structure, interactions and the support of in person school to succeed.
One of the biggest issues is the lack of social interaction. In a traditional classroom you can instantly ask questions have discussions, and build connections with classmates and teachers. Online that connection is totally lost. Staring at a screen does not make up for a real conversation and overtime you can feel isolated. School is not just about grades it is a place where people can build social skills, friendships, and confidence. Online learning makes that very hard to do.
Finally, mental health is big topic. Spending hours alone in front of a screen can turn into burnout, stress and the feeling of disconnection from the real world. Without the environment for kids to come to school and interact with each other it might feel like you feel more isolated than supported.
Online school is not completely bad but it is far from the normal learning environment for most students. The lack of interaction, structure and equal access to certain things makes it challenging for students to succeed mentally and academically. For many students being in a classroom and being hands on is not just better it is just necessary.
