No student should be harassed for his or her opinion and characteristics. Schools should offer an environment full of encouragement and support. Bullying in schools should never be allowed. The act of bullying isn’t new but nowadays we see much more of it in various ways. Records say more than 19% of students nation wide from grades 6-12 get bullied daily.
Bullying comes in many forms, whether that is physical emotions or more common today, cyberbullying. Any form of bullying should not be tolerated in schools. Additionally there should be harsher punishments for those who choose to bully. Through this it is equally as important to get help for those who turn to bullying as a way to cope with their inner thoughts and feelings.
Bullying is something that not only can effect a students attitude with school but their whole association with their school in general. Students who are bullied may associate school with emotional and physical pain and this can be a downfall to students learning processes. Bullying can make a student no longer want to attend or even put themselves out there which can cause to student to isolate themselves from their school community as well. A student who is bullied may feel as though they have no one to turn to or may feel like telling the truth may get themselves into trouble with the bully as well.
Bullying not only effects a child’s mental health but their well-being as well, but with that being said mental health is something that plays into a child’s well-being. Mental health is effected by bullying in so many ways. It can not only effect a child’s confidence but their overall view of themselves as well. A child who is bullied may feel like they deserve being bullied or even that they are just not good enough to not be bullied.
Overall, every child that is getting this type of treatment at school in that way it needs to be helped and whether that be the bully or even the person being bullied is important to understand. Bullying should never be tolerated in schools and it is the school’s responsibility to help combat bullying with the kind of attention and punishment it deserves. Getting these children help not only becomes an important focus that everyone should care about but it becomes a responsibility of not only a bystander but these schools who know this is happening as well.
