Members of the Culinary 3 class got to travel to Florida’s Disney World for five days and compete against 87 schools from across the country for Disney’s 10th annual “Cook Around the World” competition. The competition was held at the EPCOT and participants participated in many different challenges.
“This was kind of like the capstone to their whole culinary experience at BHS, so it was more of an application of everything they had been learning the past few years,” culinary teacher
Caylee Tannahill said.
They were there for a total of five days and got to compete in many different competitions and meet many different people. “I think the best part was getting to watch them cook and also meeting Duff Goldman,” Tannahill said, “I think the trip was a great learning experience for the students! Through the process they grew in so many skills like leadership, problem solving, and honed their cooking skills.”
One of the competitions is where they create their own menu within 90 minutes. The menu they had to create was chosen from a mystery basket so that way none of the participants had the same items.
There were around 100 schools there, the winning school being Royal High School from California. It was such an honor for Baldwin schools to be able to participate even though they didn’t win.
