On May 3, the BHS Musical cast and crew traveled to Wichita for the Jester awards. “The Little Mermaid” was nominated for 7 jester awards including best tech crew. Out of the nominations Baldwin took home 1 for the Tech Crew.
Tech Crew had many responsibilities, from moving huge props to watching for cues.
“Being on stage was great this year. We had a lot of tasks in between scenes,” sophomore Layla Seyler Said. “One of the hardest was the huge ship; we needed to move it as actors were actively trying to get on it, and it was a big task.”
During the awards ceremony the cast and crew got pictures on the Jester Award red carpet, groups got to take pictures with the bonds they made from participating in the musical.
“I had virtually no expectations for the Jester awards, our school has never been to them, so I was just excited to see what they were like and how they work,” Seyler said. “I do wish Baldwin High School won more awards; it would’ve been great for us to win the other awards we were nominated for, but I’m very grateful we won best stage crew.”
Throughout the musical the tech crew had many complex sets that they accomplished moving and allowed the show to move smoothly.
“A lot of factors definitely contributed to winning the award.” Seyler said “I think the main thing is just the fact that ‘The Little Mermaid’ has so many different, complex sets. It takes a lot of work to move the pieces efficiently and ensure the set looks good, and clearly, we executed it well.”
