Junior Ella Humphries is a new student at Baldwin High School. She transferred from Free State High School in Lawrence.
“I wanted to come to Baldwin because many of my friends go here, and I wanted to experience the rest of high school with them,” Humphries said.
Humphries is already involved in many activities at BHS. She is involved in House fires (a student lead bible study), Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Concert Choir.
“My favorite part of BHS is the culture,” Humphries said “The staff and students are very friendly and everyone is very tight knit. I have also loved experiencing my friends and classmates come to know Jesus this year, and the revival that is taking place in our generation.”
Coming from FSHS was a very big change within the environment and the amount of people. FSHS has over 1,500 people and Baldwin has under 500.
“Although Free State is much larger,” Humphries said, “I feel that there have been more opportunities for me here. Because of the size of my school, most teachers wouldn’t even know everyone’s name, and there were so many different friend groups. Free State is a great school, but I am very happy and proud to call myself a bulldog now.”
Kit Harris teaches multiple different classes at BHS. Ella is one of his students.
“Ella has been an awesome new student to have in class at BHS,” Harris said “Right away, she fit right in and made friends and showed a lot of creativity in class projects and assignments. She has been a very positive person to have in class and works very hard at everything she does.
