After every single workout Collum has the team do a breakdown to end off the hard work his class puts in everyday.

From Texas to Kansas, the new BHS weights coach is starting new beginnings for the weights training classes.

Jon Collum, who is originally from Texas, chose to attend Pittsburg State in Pittsburg, Kansas. He earned his Masters of Education from MidAmerica Nazarene in Olathe.

“I have always enjoyed being around people,” Collum said. “I think being in education is the best way to try and make a difference in your community. Both of my parents were educators, and I admired how they served their community. This is what inspired me.”

Collum has big plans for the future of the weight program at BHS.

“My long-term goals for my strength and conditioning classes, is not only to make an athletic impact for all of our programs, but to develop a mindset and workers attitude that will help these students be successful in life, as well as their on field competition,” Collum said.

Students like the heart and desire he puts into his class.

“I like that he pushes us to our best and gets us to do the right thing and make sure we are taking pride in Baldwin and that everything and everyone here is Baldwin Built,” freshman Logan Scott said.

And most students believe he brings a lot of benefits to this school.

“Everyone in our class loves his energy, we love his encouragement that he brings, and he really wants to make us all better, better athletes and better people,” sophomore Colton Collum said.

Learning to work hard has been an important motivating factor for Collum.

“I feel like my entire life I have had to work and grind to make things go in the right direction for me,” Collum said. “Personally, I feel like I bring that determination, persistence, and ‘nothing can stop you attitude,’ and hopefully I can inspire other kids to take on life in the same manner.”
