The closing of all Kansas schools for the rest of the year due to the impact on the Coronavirus outbreak has many seniors feeling upset. With schools closing, there comes sports closing too, which makes a lot of spring sport athletes feel left out.

“When I heard the schools were closed for the rest of the year I felt extremely frustrated,” senior Jordan Barth said. “This was because I was going to miss multiple things that I’ve been either looking forward to or have been working hard to achieve.”

Seniors were looking forward to having their last school dance this year. Senior Hope Leeker was sad to have to miss prom.

“It makes me sad that I will miss my senior prom,” Leeker said. “I will also miss making memories with my friends for the next couple months we were supposed to spend together.”

As all of the Kansas schools close down, that does not mean that there is no more schoolwork. As BHS switches to online schooling, students are still trying to cope with the situation.

“I’m hoping to stay on top of my school work and get good grades,” senior Josie Boyle said. “It’s going to take some getting used to, but the teachers are doing everything they can to help make this an effective way of learning.”

Seniors are still awaiting decisions made by the Kansas Board of Education about graduating.

“I’ve been trying to not let the closing of school get me down,” Boyle said. “Instead of thinking of everything we missed out on, I’ve been reminiscing on the good times.”

Senior Carly Fursman shared similar frustrations.

“It’s really unfortunate I won’t be able to play one more season of golf with all of my golf buddies,” Fursman said. “Knowing I won’t get a senior prom or walk across the stage to graduate is really hard to take in.”
