Class Cup opportunities allow students to compete with each other in a fun way while having school spirit.

Students always look forward to the year that their class wins and is able to go on the trip at the end of the school year.

Each year, Student Council provides opportunities for students to show school spirit and earn points for their class while doing so. Each grade is rewarded points based off of representation in the various activities.

“The grade with the most class cup points gets a trip to Worlds of Fun,” STUCO sponsor Katie Marten said. “StuCo arranges transportation to and from the park, and we pay for the ticket price of everyone. But the coolest part of all is that students get an opportunity to be together and have fun outside of school, which is an invaluable experience, really.”

There is always at least one class cup opportunity a month.

“We have a lot of great opportunities this year, such as Powderpuff, Voll-HE-Ball, and locker decorating competition,” Student Council Vice President Kayla Mountain said.

Students of all grade levels enjoy being able to get involved in their school.

“I like to connect with all the other students in my grade and get to know them better,” sophomore Michael Garber said.

Other students like the competition aspect of the class cup points.

“It gives us a chance to compete with other grades in our high school,” senior Justin Kempenar said.

Though class cup points are fun, the Student Council does find difficulty in appealing to the students.

“I think the most difficult part is trying to compete with everybody’s already-busy schedules. We try to make a lot of class cup opportunities during the school day or on Sunday afternoons in order to work around this problem,” Marten said. “I think now more than ever, it’s important to help students feel connected to each other and like they are part of something bigger than themselves.”
