Many boys and girls playing sports have a set goal walking into high school to make varsity. Some may get that chance to play varsity but only few get to start.

I was really excited to play with all the girls,” freshman Riley Smith said. “Everyone was so excited for this season and you can always feel the passion for the game everyone has”

There are also some nervous feelings Smith has had walking into the season with playing varsity.

“Yes, I get nervous every game we play,” Smith said. “I always want us to perform to the top of our ability and sometimes that doesn’t happen, but overall, the adrenaline overcomes the nerves and I just get pumped up.”

There are also freshman starting for varsity in not just soccer but in other sports, like BHS softball.

“Yes I was nervous because I didn’t want to make mistakes,” freshman Ella Scoby said.

Like Smith, Scoby has her own twist on calming her nerves before games and practice.

“What helps me calm down is when my team cheers me on and I know that I have a good defense behind me,” Scoby said.

Starting varsity is a great opportunity, but some players get to join in on the fun and play a game or two with varsity.

“It was fun. I loved their upbeat attitude towards the game,” freshman Gabby McBride said. “They are a great group of girls to play with.”

McBride got to come into the game against Wellsville when a player for varsity was injured.
