Chess Club tradition carries on

The Chess Club is an after-school activity students of BHS can do every Tuesday from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in sponsor Ashcraft’s room. In Chess Club, students face off against another student in the age-old sport of chess, while others follow suit and play or spectate other matches. Anyone can join, regardless of skill or grade.

Chess Club is not a commitment, and it is not required to show up every meeting to be part of the club. The club consists of students from BHS. Some of these students include Chess Club veterans Jacob Hoffman, Sam White and Isaac Bailey.

“We played chess, essentially,” freshman Maddox Shorb said. “It was pretty fun to be around peers, and it felt such as a time to be around friends. I such as going against Wyatt Bathke, before he quit. It was pretty challenging to face him.”

“My least favorite part about it was how short it was. It is supposed to be an hour, but most people leave at around 4 p.m.” Wyatt Bathke, former member said.

Chess Club members come and go whenever they please, and can skip as many days as they want. Members such as Bathke don’t have to show up every week to still be allowed into the club.

Chess Club is from 3:30 to 4:30, but according to Shorb, many members leave due to other commitments, such as jobs, sports, or appointments, or just out of boredom.

The club started around the beginning of the year and is still a destination of students ranging from freshman to seniors alike every Tuesday.
