Emma Grossoehme coaching her 14’s Midwest Juniors team. They got first in the 2019 Crown Town Classic.

The Midwest Juniors 14’s volleyball team gained a new coach this past season, and they are learning and succeeding in the sport.

“I coach a 14’s team for Midwest Juniors which is my competitive volleyball club,” sophomore Emma Grossoehme said.

Coaching the youth seems stressful and coaching as a whole just seems difficult, but not for her.

“So it’s fun because the girls aren’t that far off the age of me, so I can also relate to them but I’m also encouraging them and teaching them things that they need to know,” Grossoehme said.

One of her players, eighth grader Chaney Barth plays as a setter for Midwest and has good things to say about Grossoehme.

“Emma is a great coach to start with,” Barth said. “She is very bright and gets the team pumped up all the time.”

Grossoehme has been playing for Midwest for six years, and along with that coaches for her club, and has been coaching for one year.

“I really love volleyball and I think it is really fun,” she said, “And so I like getting to give other people the encouragement and the excitement and the love of the game that I have.”

Her love for the game that she shares with players is so strong that there is not really anything that she dislikes about coaching.

“Um no, I mean I’m playing right now and coaching so it’s kinda a lot, but all the girls on my team are great and they’re really great to each other,” Grossoehme said.

Playing for Midwest has given her the opportunity to coach and meet and get to know the girls.

“The club director at my club asked me if I was interested at one point and I kinda thought about it for a while and then later in the season I told her I was interested and she offered me to be coaching on the team at that point,” Grossoehme said.
