For many, high school is a stepping stone to college, but some are skipping this step. Some students are currently attending high school and college at the same time.

“Thanks to Senate Bill 155 they earn dual credit for college and high school so they are employable right out of high school,” BHS Counselor Debbie Baldwin said, “but they have to have their required classes done.”

However, some students are intimidated by this path because they fear they will not be able to keep up with their college and high school work. However, one student begs to differ.

“It’s actually pretty nice because the people are really cool at the Washburn Tech,” said Prax Myers, a senior who attends classes at Washburn Tech for half the day and then attends classes at BHS for the rest of the day,

“And they will help you out if your struggling, and then I can just coast through the rest of the day, but you still want to budget your time and make sure you get as much homework as done in class as possible,” Myers said.

This option does require planning however.

“Meet with the counselor early on to make a four-year plan, and plan for the expenses and make sure you plan ahead,” Baldwin said.
