Four BHS students travel to San Francisco for Journalism

For every high school kid, it is a dream to travel around the country while learning about something you enjoy. Four BHS journalism students and advisor Kit Harris traveled to San Francisco for a JEA National Convention.

Students that went on the trip looked forward to learning more about journalism and collecting new ways of doing things.

“I learned new techniques from the convention so I can come back ready for next year,” freshman Ian McCoy said.

“I learned more about page design. I have not had a chance to do that yet and I think it will be really fun,” freshman Zoe Thomas said.

Along with going to the conference, the students were able to visit many historic sites and learn about the city, while having fun.

Well, we had a whole list of things we did. Like going to see the Painted Ladies and the park in front of it (where the intro to Full House was filmed), we went to Pier 33 and took a ferry to Alcatraz, and also got to go to Pier 39, then to Fisherman’s Wharf, and just so much more,” senior Ellie Thurlow said.

Teacher Kit Harris traveled with the four journalism students and planned their events for the trip.

“(the best part was) Getting to spend some time with awesome  BHS students and experiencing attending a national JEA convention and adventuring all round a pretty cool city,” he said

This was the first JEA trip for Harris and the students of BHS.

The group of four returned on Monday evening from their five day trip with new experiences and new approach to journalism.
