NHS to host blood drive, calling for volunteers

National Honors Society (NHS) will host a blood drive that will be in September.

“Members of NHS participate in calling for volunteers,” junior NHS member Grace Cooper said.

Members of NHS will be working tables at lunch to rally potential candidates to donate blood to their cause. Members will help at the blood drive by providing cookies and juice to those who do donate their blood.

“Many donate blood and help with hospitality,” Cooper said.

Blood banks are constantly low on supply and each donation is able to save two lives.

“The blood donated is used within the community and benefits people in our area,” NHS sponsor Katherine Cook said. “It is not sold to other places.”

NHS has been hosting blood drives for over twenty years now. Recently they have been doing four drives a year. They previously only did three blood drives a year.

“It allows people to participate and make a difference,” Cook said.

The NHS blood drive will be from 2-6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15, in the BHS cafeteria.
