Jordan Gray has wanted to be a teacher since third grade. Being a teacher has been in her family for six generations. She now has the opportunity to become a student teacher.

“I’ve always wanted to be a teacher since third grade,” student teacher Jordan Gray said. “I will be the sixth generation in my family to become a teacher.”

Some teachers at Baldwin High School are getting to sit back and not having to teach their classes. Many student teachers have come to Baldwin to take on the jobs of a couple of teachers for a few months.

Student teaching allows the teachers at BHS to teach students how to be successful at teaching. It also lets the students teachers get an idea of what it would be like in many situations. The students teachers are also able to share new ideas and ways to teach with the students and even the teachers.

“I often find it difficult to share my students,” English teacher Katherine Cook said. “I am excited for them to have the opportunity to experience new strategies from a person who is passionate about the subject matter and interacting with the class.”

The student teachers are able to get a feel for what grade they want to teach after their experience at the school.

“Once I finish schooling I want to be a ninth or tenth grade English teacher,” Gray said.

Cook wants to do things that will benefit her students in learning new things.

“For myself, I relish the opportunity to learn new strategies and to be able to collaborate on ideas that will benefit my students,” Cook said.

Students are able to experience new ways to learn and are able to have more resources in the classroom if they need help.

“I enjoy having a student teacher,” sophomore Abby Hayes said. “There is another teacher in the classroom to help and make sure you understand what is going on.”
