New breakfast break gives students a chance to survive until lunch

To appease the growling stomachs leading up to lunch during school year, the student advisory team added a ten minute passing period between second and third hour for students to eat breakfast.

“The breakfast break is a ten minute break in between second and third hour,” senior Elizabeth Christener said. “It’s nice to have a bigger break in between my classes for food, makes the wait for lunch seem shorter.”

Last year the student advisory team led by Principal Rob McKim debated the idea to add in this break in. Many students felt that it would be beneficial to the student body to have a snack break so they were not so hungry during the hours they awaited lunch.

“I love it,” senior Candace Brown said. “The wait for lunch is so much shorter and I’m not starving by the time it gets here.”

However, not all students find it to be necessary and feel that it takes up too much time.

“I hate it,” senior Chase Mignot said. “It cuts down my seminar time, and I need all the time I can get.”

For the most part, the feedback has been good. Students are able to take a break and fuel themselves for the rest of the morning.

“I feel the overall response has been positive,” Math teacher Danielle Balsman said. “More students are eating at this time in comparison to just breakfast in previous years. Also, those that aren’t eating are using the time as a mid morning break to relax and reenergize for the push to lunch time.”
