Musicians experience annual KU Band Day

The Baldwin High School band took part in the 67th annual KU Band Day on Sept. 20. They began with a parade down Massachusetts Street with nearly 30 other schools. They then headed to Memorial Stadium for a quick rehearsal, followed by a performance at halftime of the KU vs. Central Michigan University football game.

There were nearly 2,000 people playing in the band that day compared to about 70 that are in the BHS band. Sophomore Noah Buckley said it was a unique experience.

“It was a lot different than normal, but a good different,” Buckley said.

Sophomore Jessica Steeb agreed.

“It was actually insane to be playing with so many talented people,” she said.

One opportunity they get is being able to watch the KU Band perform.

“The KU band was even better than I thought,” Buckley said. “It made it even cooler that I knew some of the people in the band.”

The BHS band’s next performance will be at the annual Maple Leaf Festival in downtown Baldwin. The Festival is Oct. 18-19, the band will be marching in the parade.
